Hellulaug við Flókalundur
Hellulaug is a geothermal pool located in the southern part of the Westfjords nearby Flókalundur in Vatnsdalur valley. In Flókalundur is good accommodation, camping ground and information center.
About 500 meters from the information center is Hellulaug geothermal pool. The pool is small but it is deep enough to relax in and enjoy the warm water but about 40°C water flows into the pool from a nearby borehole.
Flókalundur is named after Hrafna-Flóki or Raven-Floki but he is the one who named Iceland. He brought three ravens with him on his search for land and one of them found Iceland. Maybe it was Hrafna-Flóki who built Hellulaug pool, it is hard to say.
Directions:
Hellulaug pool is located about 4,5 hours (325 km) from Reykjavík. Take Ring Road nr. 1 and then road nr. 60 to the Westfjords.
