Drangsnes
Drangsnes is a small fishing village in the western part of Iceland close to the small town Hólmavík. Drangsnes main industry is fish processing but there is also a small shop in the town, post office and lately the tourism has been growing there especially during the summer.
Just outside of the coastline of Drangsnes is Grímsey island. Legend has it that Grímsey was formed by one of the three troll women who tried to separate the Westfjords from the rest of Iceland. The trolls could not find shelter from the sun during dawn so they turned into rocks. One of them are located in Drangsnes, a tall rock called Kerling. There is a sign by the rock where you can read more about this story. It is possible to take a boat ride to Grímsey but the island is rich of bird life including the puffins and fulmars.
If you are looking for some peace and quiet Drangsnes is the place to go. You can find good accommodation there with view over the fjord, camping area, a good swimming pool and even better there are hot tubs located at the shore where the locals relax after a busy day and enjoy the beautiful view.
