Perlan
Perlan or “the Pearl” is a building in Reykjavík and stands on top of Öskjuhlíð hill. The building was originally designed by Ingimundur Sveinsson and is very interesting with a glass domed structure sitting on top of six huge water storage tanks. Inside Perlan is a 10,000 cubic meters of exhibition space on the ground floor, called the Winter Garden. It has hosted many events like concerts and various markets.
In 2017 the first part of the Icelandic Natural Wonder exhibition was opened at Perlan. The exhibition offers amazing opportunity to experience how it feels to travel through glaciers and learn about their history and future. The Ice cave is built in one of Perlan’s six hot water tanks and the temperature inside the ice cave is -10C (14F).
On the fourth floor there is a large observation deck with 360-degree view over Reykjavík and surrounding area. On a sunny day the mountain Keilir can be seen in the south and the famous Snæfellsjökull glacier to the north.
